Miehleketo Mathebula

[University of Pretoria] [ML] [NLP]

A PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of Pretoria. Research focuses on artificial intelligence, natural language processing, ESG financial intelligence, and sustainable finance, with a particular interest in how fragmented ESG disclosures can be transformed into structured and meaningful insights for South African markets.

The doctoral project, SA_FinESG, develops an end-to-end framework for collecting, structuring, and analysing ESG-related information from corporate reports, financial statements, policy documents, governance frameworks, news, and sustainability disclosures. The work combines data engineering, machine learning, transformer-based NLP models, and knowledge graph representation to support ESG relevance analysis, ESG classification, policy alignment, and explainable ESG intelligence.

Passionate about using data science and AI to support transparency, accountability, and responsible decision-making. Broader research interests include financial technology, sustainable finance, responsible AI, knowledge representation, and the use of digital technologies for social impact.
