Khensani Chabalala

Khensani Chabalala is a BScHons Computer Science student at the University of Pretoria. Her honours research focuses on automatic speech recognition for low-resourced South African languages, benchmarking modern ASR models on Sepedi speech data and exploring how transcription errors affect downstream language processing tasks.

She holds a Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology from the University of Mpumalanga and brings strong technical skills in Java and Python, with a portfolio of projects spanning AI, cybersecurity, and natural language processing — including work applying AI to agriculture and language accessibility. She has a strong record in competitive data science, placing in the Top 6 nationally at the DIRISA datathon and first at MAISH 2023.

Beyond her research, Khensani is passionate about mentoring, community engagement, and building an inclusive presence in women-in-tech spaces, and brings a creative perspective to her technical work.
