Delwyn Gordon
[University of Pretoria] [ML]
Delwyn Gordon is an AI software engineer at the BMW IT HUB and a MIT student specialising in Big Data Science at the University of Pretoria. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Pretoria and has experience across full-stack software development, cloud-based systems, machine learning, and enterprise artificial intelligence. At BMW, he contributes to the development of the Group AI Assistant, working on scalable AI-enabled applications, backend services, user-facing platforms, and the integration of large language models into enterprise environments.
His research focuses on speech AI, multilingual machine learning, and inclusive technologies for under-resourced African languages. His current master's research investigates biometric voice authentication and speaker recognition across South African languages. Interested in exploring how modern deep learning and self-supervised speech models perform across different languages and speaking styles, with particular attention to accuracy, robustness, bias, and multilingual generalisation.
His broader interests include machine learning, natural language processing, speaker recognition, responsible AI, low-resource language technologies, cloud computing, enterprise AI systems, and agentic AI. He is particularly interested in building practical AI systems that are technically robust, socially relevant, and better suited to African contexts.
