Casper Muziri
[University of Pretoria] [NLP]
Casper Muziri is a postgraduate data science student at the University of Pretoria, specializing in big data science. His academic and research interests lie at the intersection of machine learning and speech technologies, with a particular focus on automatic speech recognition (ASR) for low-resource African languages. He has practical experience in software and data engineering, having worked as a web developer at Evetech, where he built scalable web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks. His current research explores the fine-tuning of pretrained models such as Whisper for underrepresented languages, integrating theoretical approaches with empirical experimentation. Casper also holds an Honours degree in Mechatronics Engineering, with a strong interest in electronics and robotics. Looking ahead, he aims to get into deep learning applications for robotics and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
